Taste Buddies, we know that it is difficult to find fun things to do during COVID-19. Plus, for whatever reason, many folks fall prey to the misconception that there is “nothing to do in Palm Beach.” We are all itching to “get in the wind,” as Nana Toni would say. But, what is there to do?
Friends, don’t let The Rona get you down! We must continue to find ways to enjoy life (while staying safe, of course).
Here is your inspiration to get out and enjoy yourself this Labor Day Weekend:
Drive-Thru Events in Palm Beach
1. Fair Eats Drive-Thru
Great news, Taste Buddies! The Fair Eats Drive-Thru returns to the South Florida Fairgrounds this Labor Day Weekend, September 5-7. You can get all of your fair food favorites like funnel cakes, elephant ears, and jumbo corn dogs.
This event is very safe for all. You just roll through the drive-thru, place your order, and wait for your order to be filled.
The Toni Girls tried everything on the original Fair Eats menu (yes, every single thing), so check out our blog post discussing the delectable treats.
The Labor Day menu will include additional items (e.g., sausage with onions and peppers, gyro-to-go, and bucket of mini donuts). We can hardly wait to dig in. Do the Stanky Turkey Leg!
The Toni Girls will be reporting for duty at the Fair Eats this weekend. Be on the lookout for our review of the new Fair Eats items!
2. Drive-in Movie (Show on the Go)
The City of West Palm Beach is hosting drive-in movies for the family this weekend. This community event, known as “Show on the Go”, should be a fun and family-friendly event for all. As an added bonus, the featured film for this coming Saturday night is from one of Toni J’s favorite movie franchises: Jumanji!
This is one of the more affordable events in Palm Beach, at just $10 per vehicle. If you’re interested in an upgraded experience, you may opt for the $30 VIP experience, which includes a premier viewing location, popcorn, drinks, and candy.
There will also be food and drink available for purchase on-site with no-contact delivery. For the cheap cost-conscious Taste Buddies, you are allowed to bring in your own food to the event. (We know you would have brought your own food anyway! We’re not judging.)
Full disclosure: The Toni Girls have not attended this event yet. When we write our restaurant reviews, we never recommend spots that we have not previously tried for ourselves. You can always trust us to guide you to your next culinary adventure! However, for this weekend guide, we are relaxing our editorial standards to recommend a few events in Palm Beach that you can try.
Check out the “Show on the Go”, and let us know how the show goes.
Virtual Events in Palm Beach
3. Host a Virtual Party
Maybe this weekend is a good time to re-connect with dear friends and family. (Please don’t call that old flame, though.)
Consider hosting a virtual party. You can bring together loved ones to talk, laugh, dance, or play games. It’s affordable and relatively easy to do with technology.
Toni N would love for virtual parties to continue post-COVID. Think about it: no clean up; no need to kick anyone out of your house (just close the laptop like Nene Leakes); and no need to pay for a venue or fancy menu. It’s perfect!
Toni J recently hosted an amazing virtual birthday party. Check out our recent blog post offering 10 tips to host the best virtual birthday party to learn how to slay your virtual soirée.
4. Online Art Class
(*In-Person Option Available)
Try something different this weekend, Taste Buddy. Get your hands dirty with some paint! (Don’t get the paint on your clothes because it will never come out. We’re speaking from experience here.)
We’ve all heard of those “paint and sip” classes. These classes are fun and great for friend groups. The Toni Girls enjoy Uptown Art’s in-person classes, so we were pleased to see that this business is creating innovative ways to keep the art alive!
You can pick up a stenciled or blank canvas with art supplies and paint from Uptown. Tiny Toni loved the grab and go painting kit for kids. Uptown Art has online art classes on demand, and will even host a private party at your location.
Places to Eat
5. Go on a Dessert Run
Dessert run, anyone? This weekend could be a great opportunity to get out of the house and get your sugar fix! If your sweet tooth cravings are as strong as the Toni Girls’, you need to try one of our recommended dessert spots.
- For cute scenery and a nice visual experience, try Infusion: A Rollin’ Creamery in Royal Palm Beach.
- If you want a great slice of cake or delicious cookies, try Cakes Etc in West Palm.
- If you want delicious cheesecake that just so happens to be 100% raw vegan, try Dina’s in Riviera Beach.
The Toni Girls have already done all of the research (i.e., eating) for you in our desserts blog post, so be sure to check it out.
6. Try Chulas
Looking for some tasty and unique Mexican dishes to try this weekend? Of course, you are. We recommend that you try Chulas Botanera in Lake Worth. Whether you’re looking for nachos con jalapeños or a wild ice cream, Chulas is worth a shot this weekend.
Congratulations to Chulas on opening a second location. We can’t wait to check it out. For more tea on Chulas, read our restaurant review on this adorable, Mexican restaurant.
Outdoor Events in Palm Beach
7. Go on a Family Safari
Tap into your wild side this weekend! The kids will love an outdoor adventure. We took Tiny Toni and Baby Toni to Lion Country Safari. The kids absolutely loved this safari ride.
The Toni Girls also loved the safari because it is extremely safe (in terms of COVID). After we gave our names at the ticket booth, we remained in our cars with the windows rolled up the entire time. Toni J was a little freaked out by a rhino who didn’t feel like letting our car pass. But the rhino eventually yielded to us, and Toni J’s head did not explode.
A word of advice: book your tickets in advance because tickets sell out pretty quickly on the weekend. We learned this the hard way.
For a walk-through experience, you can ride out to the Palm Beach Zoo and Conservation Society to see the animals. Masks are required when social distancing is not possible.
8. Water Sports
For our risk-taking Taste Buddies, have some fun with parasailing or tubing this weekend.
Try out some water sport activities with Adventure Water Sports or Parasailing Palm Beach. Both of these companies received rave reviews on Trip Advisor.
Another disclosure is appropriate here: The Toni Girls have NOT been out doing any water sport shenanigans. We are basing our recommendations here on the reviews we’ve read on TripAdvisor.com. Follow us on TripAdvisor for trustworthy, local reviews.
Sail at your own risk, and Godspeed, Taste Buddy.
9. Sandy Beaches
Now, this goes without saying but the beach is always an option for a fun weekend. The Palm Beaches have the most beautiful sandy beaches in which anyone could ever dream of splashing around.
The City of Riviera Beach’s gorgeous beaches will be open this Labor Day weekend, according to the City’s Facebook page.
Toni J recently enjoyed some time with family on Palm Beach. She had a great time, but there was no crowd at that time that she visited the water.
We are NOT encouraging you to hang out in crowds or disregard the available guidance. If you can find a safe, quiet spot sometime this weekend, then please enjoy it. Be wise, safe, and vigilant, Taste Buddies.
10. Segway Tour
“Paul Blart: Mall Cop” is one of the Toni Girls’ favorite movies. We’ve always wanted to roll out on one of those segways that Blart was riding. Palm Beach natives have seen the segway tours rolling downtown. Have you tried it? Our head deacon said it was a wonderful experience! Put on your helmet and try it out.
Well, Taste Buddies, those are our 10 ideas for events in Palm Beach this weekend. We hope that you are inspired to do something that brings you joy.
If you plan to stay inside, check out our recipes for some fun at-home eats:
Try the fried biscuits or chocolate churro empanadas for quick and fun desserts. Or, if you have the time and patience for it, take a stab at Toni N’s “Put it on ‘Em” pound cake recipe.
Enjoy yourself in whatever you choose to do this weekend. Stay safe (and out of folks’ faces), wear your mask, and wash your hands.
