The Toni Girls are so excited to share our latest culinary adventure. You know we love to try the wildest things. While we can’t get out and do our restaurant reviews as much as we would like due to COVID-19, we are getting creative at home. Our latest shenanigan might be our wildest yet:
We made an air fryer cake!
Someone once said that the air fryer is just an adult easy bake oven! Truer words have never been spoken.
We love our air fryer because we can quickly and easily whip up a meal. You just set the air fryer and let it do it’s thing.
Because we love our air fryer so dearly, we wanted to know if it were possible to cook anything in the air fryer. Taste Buddies, you can do anything that you set your mind (and air fryer) to do!

Air Fryer Cake Recipe
This air fryer cake recipe is a slight twist on our original sour cream pound cake recipe.
We’ll give you a condensed version of the sour cream pound cake recipe. You can check out our prior blog post for detailed, step-by-step instructions.

How to Bake an Air Fryer Cake
After you’ve got your cake batter ready to bake, find a small pan for your air fryer cake. Make sure that the pan is able to fit into your air fryer. For those who are concerned about what types of dishes can be used inside the air fryer, according to our research on *YouTube University, anything that you can put into the oven can be put into the air fryer. However, air fry at your own risk!
(*YouTube University is not a real university; it is our nickname for YouTube. It makes us feel studious when we run to YouTube to find a quick tutorial when we don’t know what we’re doing.)
Choosing the right pan for your cake is important. If your pan fills the entire air fryer, you can fashion a sling with a piece of aluminum foil so that you can use the foil to pick up the pan after it bakes.
The air fryer
The Toni Girls used the Instant Vortex air fryer to bake our air fryer cake. We adore this air fryer, and about 4 or 5 of the meals that we eat each week are cooked in the air fryer. This air fryer cooks chicken wings, french fries, and fish so beautifully.
If you’re not air frying yet, what are you waiting for to get started? The air fryer can work for any diet. Whether you’re a meat-eater or strict vegan, owning an air fryer could drastically improve your cooking life.
The air fryer that we used to bake our pound cake is available for purchase on Amazon.

The settings
Our Instant Vortex air fryer has multiple settings. The device has a bake setting, so that is what we used for our pound cake.
it’s all in the Timing
It took much longer than we expected for the cake to bake in the air fryer. Ultimately, we baked the cake for 55 minutes in the air fryer. The outer layer of our air fryer cake was getting very dark, but the center of the cake was completely uncooked.
Because the cake was not cooking in the center, ended up putting the cake in the oven for 15 minutes to make sure that the cake was done all the way through.
Don’t judge us for finishing off the cake in the oven. We tried our hardest to use only the air fryer, but we wanted to make sure that the cake was completely baked.
We were able to bake the air fryer cake 20 minutes faster than if we had used only the oven. You can do a lot with an extra 20 minutes in your day, Taste Buddies!
The Taste Test
We invited Tiny Toni and Mama Toni to taste our air fryer cake. You can imagine that we were very nervous to hear their reviews of our cake. Tiny Toni is brutally honest in the way that innocent children are. We were so pleased that both of our girls rated our air fryer cake as a 10 out of 10!

Now that you know how to bake a cake in the air fryer, will you try it? During this time of quarantine and social distancing, we can all benefit from trying something new–even if it is as ridiculous as baking a cake in the air fryer.
Stay safe, Taste Buddies!
